Washington, D.C. (August 10, 2020) — On Wednesday, corporate responses to the COVID-19 pandemic will be addressed by some of the country’s top business executives from leading companies during the series of webinars titled, Our Health, Our Community: Mobilizing the Survival of Black Women Beyond COVID-19.
Black women spend a lifetime caring for others while neglecting their own need for self-care. In light of heightened racism and the COVID-19 crisis, Black Women’s Health Imperative, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., and EBONY have launched a joint initiative addressing the health of Black women. Through the webinar series, in addition to policy recommendations and a practical guide, BWHI, NCBW and EBONY hope to raise awareness around the roots of health disparities and provide access to information and resources that promote healthy behaviors and safe environments for Black women through the pandemic and beyond.
“At the conclusion of this initiative, we will release a post-recovery pandemic guide that will not only focus on the impacts of COVID-19, it will highlight Black women who survived death, complete financial loss or individual control,” said Linda Goler Blount, President and CEO, BWHI. “The final part of the guide, Surviving and Thriving in America During COVID-19: A Guide for Black Women, will position the long-term resiliency and strength of Black women as one of the reasons why we have been historically able to navigate through some of the worst conditions and circumstances to lead our families and communities.”
