Birth Control & the ACA

Did you know that your health insurance marketplace plan MUST cover

contraceptive methods and counseling for all women, as prescribed by a health care provider. The plans still cover these services without charging a copayment or coinsurance when provided by  your in-network health provider — even if you haven’t met your  plan’s deductible, yet.

What Birth Control is Covered?

    • Barrier methods, like diaphragms and sponges
    • Hormonal methods, like birth control pills and vaginal rings
    • Implanted devices, like intrauterine devices (IUDs)
    • Emergency contraception, like Plan B® and ella®
    • Sterilization procedures
    • Patient education and counseling

Make sure you read your plan’s materials, so you know what is and what is not covered before you need it. Your plan usually spells out what methods they cover. If you can’t find the information, give the plan a call.
