The Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) is the only national organization dedicated solely to advancing the health and well-being of Black women and girls. The Grants Manager plays a vital role in this mission by securing the funding that fuels our programs, advocacy, and research.

Position Summary

The Grants Manager serves as a key member of BWHI’s development team, responsible for leading the collaborative process of researching, writing, editing, and submitting comprehensive proposals that reflect the organization’s mission and purpose. This role requires strong grant writing and the ability to work closely with colleagues to develop strategies that align proposals and reports with targeted funder priorities. By securing and stewarding institutional support from corporate, foundation, and government partners, the Grants Manager ensures that all submissions are compelling, accurate, and representative of BWHI’s voice and impact.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and collaborating closely with the Policy, Programs, and Communications teams, the Grants Manager will help secure more than $1.9 million annually toward BWHI’s $9 million overall fundraising goal, managing approximately 25 proposals and reports per year.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Development
Write clear, compelling, and mission-driven proposals for new and renewal funding.
Tailor proposals to funder priorities while maintaining BWHI’s institutional voice and messaging.
Develop strong, persuasive cases for support grounded in data, program impact, and community stories.

Grant Management & Reporting
Prepare timely, accurate narrative and financial reports for all active grants.
Maintain and update BWHI’s grants tracking system to monitor deadlines, deliverables, and internal coordination.
Partner with program, policy, and communications staff to gather relevant data, impact metrics, and narratives.

Research & Strategy
Identify and qualify new funding prospects, including multi-year opportunities.
Track sector trends and funder priorities to inform cultivation and proposal strategies.
Support relationship-building activities by preparing funder research, background briefs, and talking points.
Required Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of professional grant writing experience.
Proven record of securing funding from institutional donors.
High agency and initiative to lead and own the grant research, development, submission process and deadlines.
Stakeholder management; able to guide and influence at all levels including internal leadership.
Able to exercise strong project-oriented skills to lead grant submission processes inclusive of culling key materials, collaborator contributions, and effectuate clear communication.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills with experience managing multiple priorities, deadlines and our grants database or CRM without sacrificing quality.
Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and style to different audiences.
Able to work collaboratively across teams and ask for support when needed.

Preferred Experience

Experience securing grants from corporate foundations, family foundations, and government agencies.
Experience using Salesforce or similar platforms for grant management.
Familiarity with health equity, racial justice, or related advocacy fields.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This position operates in a remote home office environment.
Requires prolonged periods of computer-based work with appropriate breaks.
Must be able to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and email.
This is a full-time (FTE) position (40 hours/week). Additionally, all employees are required to be available during core working hours (10am 3pm EST) and across multiple time zones.
Occasional travel for conferences, funder meetings, or organizational events may be required (up to 10%).

The estimated base compensation range for this role is $70,000 $75,000. Actual base pay for a successful candidate will consider skills, experience and location. As a remote-first employer, BWHI offers a competitive total rewards package, including
