Duration: 9 months
Estimated consulting rate: $40/hour, invoiced by contractor in accordance with the terms of the final agreement; BWHI reserves the right to structure final compensation consistent with the final agreement.
Estimated Support Hours: Approximately 20–25 hours per week during the contract term.
Primary Contact & Project Liaison: EVP, Programs & Advocacy
Location: Remote; limited domestic travel may be required. Preference for contractors located in the Eastern Time Zone to facilitate project coordination.

Project Purpose

Black Women’s Health Imperative (“BWHI”) seeks an independent contractor to provide project-based implementation support for selected deliverables related to BWHI’s CDC-funded diabetes programming and its grant-funded cardiovascular health initiative, Protecting Black Women’s Hearts Across Generations.

The contractor will provide specialized project management and implementation consulting services focused on defined project deliverables, timelines, and coordination outputs. The contractor will determine the method, sequence, and means of performing the services, subject only to the deliverables, deadlines, and project objectives set forth in this Scope of Work.

Scope of Work:

The contractor will provide project-based consulting services and deliver the following outputs:

  • Develop a detailed implementation work plan for agreed grant-supported activities, including key milestones, dependencies, risks, and recommended project checkpoints.
  • Provide coordination support for integrating heart and vascular disease education into existing programming, including facilitating defined curriculum working sessions, documenting key decisions, and tracking agreed-upon content revisions.
  • Develop a pilot cohort launch package that may include implementation timelines, logistics recommendations, coordination tools, and readiness materials for BWHI’s use.
  • Provide planning and coordination support for two webinars, including development of planning timelines, speaker coordination materials, run-of-show documentation, and post-event summary notes, as agreed.
  • Provide periodic written project status updates and a final summary of completed deliverables, outstanding items, and recommendations.

Desired Contractor Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nonprofit management, program management, or related field; MPH preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing grant-funded programs or nonprofit initiatives.
  • Strong project management and program operations experience.
  • Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder public health or community-based programs.
  • Experience managing program timelines, deliverables, and implementation workstreams.
  • Strong organizational and administrative coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Relevant Experience

  • Experience managing chronic disease or cardiovascular health programs.
  • Experience working with health equity-focused or culturally tailored public health programs.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of evidence-based programs.
  • Experience working with national nonprofit organizations.
  • Familiarity with grant compliance and reporting processes.
  • PMP or similar project management training is a plus.

Contract Details

  • Classification: This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement. The contractor will be responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, licenses, and business expenses.
  • Business Entity: Contractor must be authorized to work in the U.S. and may be required to pass a business entity verification or background check as a condition of engagement
  • Insurance Requirements: Contractor is expected to carry and maintain appropriate insurance coverage, including general liability and workers’ compensation (if required by state law), and may be asked to provide a certificate of insurance
  • Tools and Resources: Contractor is expected to provide their own equipment, tools, and ordinary business resources unless otherwise specified in writing.
  • Benefits: Contractors are not eligible for employee benefits, paid time off, or participation in employee programs.
  • Work hours: Estimated 20-25 /week; flexible schedule with expected responsiveness during business hours. Weekly check-ins and status updates required.
  • Work Approach: Contractor will determine the method, sequence, and means of performing the services, subject only to agreed deliverables, deadlines, and mutually scheduled meetings.
  • Project Coordination: Contractor will participate in periodic check-ins and provide written status updates as outlined in the agreement.
  • Travel: Limited domestic travel may be required and, if approved in advance, reimbursed in accordance with contract terms.
  • The contractor will determine the manner, means, sequence, and method of performing the services, subject only to the deliverables, deadlines, and project objectives outlined in the agreement.
