In the midst of a global pandemic, communities of color continue to be the most impacted. Despite the rising number of cases, some colleges/universities have decided to reopen for the Fall semester with in-person instruction. Administrators have explained that reopening will provide again the social and educational benefits that are missing for students if they only take classes online. However, it is uncertain if college/university administrators have given students a chance to voice their opinions or have any say at all, even with the health and well-being of students being at risk.
Through, BWHI’s My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) program, we are hosting the MSK Listening Session which will provide a safe space for young Black women on college campuses to come together and share their concerns about the reopening of campuses and their mental/emotional health during this time. This MSK Listening Session will be one of many as MSK continues to provide a platform to discuss issues that impact students and advocate for conditions that benefit them.Young Black women on college campuses can also participate in the MSK Survey which will capture additional information from students who may not be able to participate in the MSK Listening Session.
