Women’s Health Organizations Launch New Care Women Deserve Campaign

It’s no secret that women have different health needs than men — especially when it comes to preventive care. To address the unique care women need, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires most insurance plans to cover women’s preventive services along with other recommended preventive services at no out-of-pocket costs to them. Prior to the ACA, there was not a dedicated set of preventive services specifically for women.

The Women’s Preventive Services Guidelines are key to ensuring women get the care they need — not just when we’re sick, but throughout our lives to help us stay healthy.

Today, a partnership of women’s organizations announced the launch of a new campaign, Care Women Deserve, with a mission that aims to educate women on the range of vital women’s preventive services available at no out-of-pocket cost.

The Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) is excited to join The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, March of Dimes, National Women’s Law Center, Power To Decide and the United State of Women on this campaign.

We are coming together amidst the chaos in DC that surrounds health care to inform women that preventive care is essential to helping them stay healthy and improving their overall wellbeing.

BWHI is the longest serving national organization dedicated solely to protecting and advancing the health and wellness of our nation’s 21 million Black women and girls. We advocate for policies and practical strategies that help to eliminate health conditions disproportionately affecting Black women.

We have contributed to significant policy changes on the state and federal levels for the coverage of all forms of screening mammograms, particularly 3-D mammograms, as well as for the continued existence and coverage of the ACA’s 10 Essential Health Benefits. The Care Women Deserve campaign is a part of our larger policy efforts to ensure Black women and girls have access to quality, affordable, and comprehensive health care.
