The Care Women Deserve campaign aims to educate women on the preventive services available with no out of pocket costs, established by the Affordable Care Act.
WASHINGTON D.C. — (January 9, 2017) — Today, the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) joins a partnership of women’s organizations to announce the launch of the new Care Women Deserve campaign with a mission that aims to educate women on the range of women’s preventive services available at no out-of-pocket cost.
BWHI will partner with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, March of Dimes, National Women’s Law Center, Power to Decide, UnidosUS, and the United State of Women to bring awareness to a range of preventive services specifically for women and required to be covered under Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance plans with no out-of-pocket costs to patients. Currently, many women are not aware of these “free” benefits or they believe they are no longer covered.
“The ACA has allowed millions of Black women to have access to quality preventive services and medical care, access that has saved thousands of their lives,” said Linda Goler Blount, president and CEO of the Black Women’s Health Imperative. “Because medical costs are a leading cause of bankruptcy for all Americans, access to no out-of-pocket preventive and other healthcare services leads to healthier, stronger families and communities. BWHI will continue to work with our partners to educate Black women on essential health benefits available to them under the law and will continue to advocate for policies that protect the health and wealth of Black women.”
