Program Manager, Advocacy and Leadership Development
Overview
Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) seeks a Program Manager, Leadership Development to join our Policy, Advocacy, and Science (PAS) department. BWHI is dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of Black women through advocacy, programs, and research translation. This role will focus on managing advocacy and leadership programming related to Reproductive Justice (RJ) initiatives.
Description of Position
The Program Manager, Advocacy and Leadership Development (ALM) will report to the Senior Director (SD) who is responsible for providing leadership of the organization’s RJ initiatives including the My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) and Positive Period (PP) programs and will be a member of the Policy Advocacy and Science (PAS) department. The ALM supports the SD in working with other BWHI policy staff and affiliates to organize and monitor and implement key activities of RJ programing at BWHI. This is a manager role, with responsibilities that involve overseeing project deliverables, budget management, and fostering effective communication both internally and externally. While the Program Manager (ALM) primary responsibilities are outlined below, like all BWHI staff, the ALM contributes support to the overall vision and mission of the organization to address the health equity needs of Black women and girls.
The Day-to-Day
- Manages daily programmatic operations of the RJ portfolio of advocacy and leadership development programs and activities.
- Provides management for the coordination, preparation and dissemination of regular program updates, writing and preparing proposals and reports, contracts management, and data monitoring for RJ programs.
- Collaborates with the Program Manager, Outreach and Engagement to establish an evaluation system to analyze the impact and successes of programming activities.
- Manages the preparation of progress, quarterly and annual reports and facilitates program evaluation activities.
- Collaborates with the Program Manager, Outreach and Engagement on the creation of materials including fact sheets, program content, research and media materials
- Strives to maintain updated knowledge on all existing and emerging topics and the relevant political landscape related to Black women’s health.
- Engages in ongoing communication about organizational and program progress, including successes and challenges with supervisor.
- Conceptualizes curriculum designs aligned with branding guidelines and educational goals.
- Supports the research, development and implementation of Learning Management platforms.
- Research instructional methods and educational technology trends to enhance program effectiveness.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and develop training content.
- Evaluates training sessions and assesses the effectiveness of training programs using established metrics.
- Supervises and trains facilitators for RJ curricula and maintain partnerships with implementing partners.
- Identify training needs, develop training plans, and conduct skill assessments for program participants.
- Collects and analyzes feedback from participants and stakeholders to continuously improve program content and delivery.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five (5) years of experience OR a Master’s degree.
- Experience in adult learner engagement.
- A proven track-record of high-level impact on advocacy and policy issues in the human services field and/or reproductive health right and justice field.
- Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, maternal health, and/or chronic disease issues affecting Black women.
- Understanding of the lived experiences of Black women.
- Strategic thinker with a strong focus on results and a passion for advocacy and leadership development.
- Ability to design curriculum, training materials, and assessments.
- Experience facilitating training sessions in-person and/or virtually.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Effective communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, including budget oversight and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborative team player dedicated to organizational success.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and project management platforms.
- Approximately 10% travel
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration or related degree.
A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this role is $70,000 – $80,000 annually depending on experience. The actual salary for the successful candidate will be based on jobrelated education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
